Twitter is having a major make-over, and it looks good. Instead of adding tabs to the existing design (like the recent Twitter activity tab) it is now redesigned the whole application. I have to say, it looks and feels very good, but that is my opinion.
The new design will eventually be added to Twitter.com, TweetDeck, as well as its mobile apps. So let me show you around the new design.
The Home section.
The Home section has…you guessed it, the twitter stream! Once you select a tweet, you can immediately retweet it, favourite it, or copy the link to the tweet or email it. If you open links they remain in the application and do not open in Safari for example when on the iPhone.
The @Connect section.
The @Connect section is basically the activity tab renamed. Here is where you can see who has followed or mentioned you, retweeted or favorited one of your Tweets. It has two tabs, one for interactions and another for mentions.
An interesting new section is the Discover section.
The #Discover section.
This seems to be a mix of several former Twitter parts all wrapped into a nice shiny new section. Here is where you will find the who to follow, Find Friends, Trends, hashtags, stories and the all important search! When you search, you will also see an option to switch to a people results page to fine tune your results.
The last section is the “Me”one.
The Me section.
Here you will see your stats, direct messages, drafts, lists, saved searches, settings, and you can switch to any other accounts you may have loaded.
Making new Tweets
The new tweets button is in the top right corner of all the sections. There you will find all the familiar functions of the current design.
In summary – The NEW Twitter design
The new design makes a lot of sense, and I cannot wait to see it deployed across all platforms. You can view a video of it here, and you can try it now on the iPhone and Android platforms.
Have fun with it, and tell me what you think of it!
